"Anybody hungry?" Dylan calls to us after some time has passed as he steps outside the door of The Barn. "I made dinner." He chuckles. "Again."

I roll my eyes at him before glancing at Destiny and Mr. Hart incredulously. The food never ends around here—but Dylan is the right man for the job. Not only does he provide enough of the stuff, but makes it taste phenomenal.

"Sure glad to have Dylan around. If it weren't for him, we'd all starve." I try to say it in good humor, but I'm sure there's some sarcasm.

Tends to happen when my cousin is around.

Destiny and Mr. Hart smile gratefully.

"He's a keeper," Destiny says. Not a hint of sarcasm in her voice. "Hey, uh, sweetie?" she calls to Storm, who's jogging her horse past us. "It's time to get ready for dinner. Uncle Dylan has made us something to eat. We should go in now."

"Okay." Storm slows her horse with careful commands and a gentle ease back on the reins.

"I'll help her get her horse in." Mr. Hart saunters bow-legged her way. "Then I'll go get my missus, and we'll all be right down."

I nod, and Mr. Hart heads over to help Storm get her horse bedded for the night. It's not something that can or should be rushed. And there's no better person to teach Storm the responsibilities of horse ownership than that man right there––her grandfather.

I'm so damn grateful for everything he's done for her and Destiny––who is sliding her fingers through mine, capturing my attention better than a lasso around my neck. She leads me, hand in hand, over to Dylan, and even though Destiny doesn't know about my plans for the proposal yet, we've stepped into a new phase of our relationship.

I can't explain it, but holding her hand feels different now. Just hoping she'll be my wife makes me more connected to her. And I've always been connected to her. It's just deepening.

Dylan grins as we approach and stares me down from hat to boot. "You two lovebirds look like you're having a good day," he says with a wink.

Destiny and I smile at him, then at each other.

"You could say that," I drawl.

"Well, come on." Dylan waves us inside. "I made a big pot of chili. Fresh cornbread, too. Sour cream if you want it. "

Destiny swoons.

The side door leads into the kitchen, and as soon as we walk in, the fantastic aroma of spices, peppers, beans, and the fatty ground beef in the chili fills the room.

"Oooh, smells amazing, Dylan," she murmurs.

"It's my uncle's chili recipe," he tells her over his shoulder. "Best chili ever. He should be down here any minute now."

"How's Malcolm been feeling?" Destiny asks, directing her question at both of us. "I've been so busy at the clinic I haven't had the chance to see him for a few days."

Destiny and I have been driving Storm to school for now, and Destiny spends her day working at the clinic until I go and pick them both up.
